Keep your eyes on the mission
On his journey through Galilee in Mark’s Gospel, Jesus announces his passion, death and resurrection three times because as he travels, the eyes of his heart are always on his mission of salvation. Therefore, he is profoundly aware of the people he meets and the situations he experiences along the way. He is present to the needs of all others because they are his focus: his has come into the world for each of them.
Today, he invites us (just as he did for his disciples) to change our way of perceiving our own reality: it’s not all about “me” and how useful others might be for me to reach my goals. He challenges us to take our eyes off ourselves and to focus on people and things we never noticed before and see them as important.
No one is “useless” or “unimportant”: not a child, nor a sick person, nor a sinner, etc. The risen Lord is present in each person that we encounter along our way to him.
