Once again the Lord is offering us the most intimate relationship with him in the Eucharist. He is our very source of life…eternal life. We need to eat each day to survive, but we need something more than just food in life.
From before our birth and until our last day on earth we need to love and be loved in order to not just survive but to live in a human way.
The Lord’s love for us is not disincarnated spiritual love. We cannot divide ourselves into spirit and body. He cares about us: our bodies as well as our souls. All of who we are is important to him. The Lord in his totality loves us in ours. He has come to fill all of our yearnings, all our hungering.
In the Eucharist, he who gave his life to free us from sin and death, fills our hunger and invites us to be one with him forever.
When we are one with him we will yearn to show solidarity with those who hunger:
-to be treated as fully human;
-to find meaning in their existence;
-to those who do not have enough to eat each day;
-to those who are spiritually hungry;
-to those who hunger for true love.
Intimacy with the Lord changes everything and forever by making us one with him and so also with each other.
