Many see the will of God as arbitrary. They fail to understand that there is no truth, healing, or salvation outside of God, only the illusion of self-will. The heart of Jesus had to be honest with us if we were to be healed and redeemed. The price he paid for his honesty was a terrible one. Yet he never betrayed his mission nor lied to those for whom he was sent.
Jesus did accommodate his hearers so far as that was important for their understanding him. He had been sent to heal and redeem. It was necessary to choose means that were suited to our humanity. In this he is the image of his Father, who opens our hearts to his truth by showing his love in the heart of his Son. We can see in this gentle approach a proof of the seriousness of divine love. We see the compassion of the Father in the way in which the heart of Jesus reaches out to us.
Heavenly Father, you gain nothing by giving us your Son. We gain everything. In him you have shown us the only way to arrive at the fullness of life. May I always see your commands as invitations to life.
