The heart of a disciple is a mirror that glorifies the Lord. Yet when we look into the mirror we see our sins and pettiness. This is a time to set them aside for a moment of peaceful prayer.
Jesus says to us: “My Presence will cleanse you. Only I can make you bright and shining. Look at me in your mirror whatever else you see there; little by little the film will dissolve. ‘Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God.’”
We have one idea of what our day should bring and the Lord has another. Our idea serves our desires, whether or not these are really useful for us or others. Jesus’ idea is a long-range view of what we can become with his grace, once our hearts have been purified. The purification takes place in prayer and in the action of this day. Our prayer in Jesus’ presence is the foundation of everything else.
I pray that during this day I may want what you want, Lord. I pray that your will be done in me and by me. Little by little you will make me clean, so that what I am and do, reflects your beauty.
