The world in which we live out our daily routines and in which public events take place is highly visible. History is composed of the record of the affairs of humankind: politics and economics; the fame or notoriety of celebrities; the ups and downs of our homes and work-places. This is the only world that many people know.
There is, however, another world existing in the same place as the public one. In this other world Jesus works in the minds and hearts of human beings, gradually transforming them from sinners to saints. In this spiritual world the important events are either not visible at all or hardly so. They almost never receive mention in newspapers and books. From a spiritual point of view, the events that receive the most attention and that will pass from the scene have little importance in themselves. Their real meaning is as a setting for God’s work in the other invisible world of the human heart and mind.
I pray, Lord, that I may see life about me with a spiritual viewpoint. Enable me to appreciate what you are doing inside the visible world, within human hearts.
