Because our shared faith binds us closely together we can truly become one voice for Jesus, one sign of Jesus in a world that needs that sign. It makes a great deal of difference how we present ourselves to the world because the world will judge our faith and the Lord, who is its center, by what the world sees in us.
The mark of being a disciple of Jesus ought to be freedom and joy. He has set us free from self and free for oneness with God and with other disciples. We are not aliens but have sisters and brothers in a special family to which God has called us. Our shared joy can attract others to discover what we have discovered. Joy in being one with one another is the most visible sign of all. Jesus said: “This is how all will know you for my disciples: your love for one another” (Jn 13). God takes people who were once aliens and makes them a community of brothers and sisters of Jesus.
You prayed for unity among those who call themselves your disciples, Lord. Unity in you means loving you and loving others in you. I want to become a true disciple who, with my brothers and sisters, shows your joy to the world.
