Sometimes God sends his peace into our hearts when we least expect it. It may be that we are not even at prayer. Indeed, we may be in the middle of the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We may ask, Why? What catastrophe is looming so that we need this preparation. Is this the Transfiguration before the Passion, when Jesus prepared his apostles for what was to come? Then too we may ask, What do we need to do to hold on to this peace?
All we need to do is receive God’s gift with gratitude. There are many possible reasons for the giving besides catastrophe. Perhaps it is only part of our ongoing education regarding God. Perhaps we will meet a troubled soul today, someone who needs to meet a peaceful heart. Perhaps we will encounter some minor hurdle the Lord would have us leap over with good spirits. Perhaps God is healing the wounds of the past. God knows; we don’t. It is enough to receive divine peace with simplicity—and peacefully.
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for your tender care of me. Thank you for your wisdom and your power in my life. I believe in you; I trust you.
