All the earth is the Lord’s temple and all life is sacred. Many holy persons have been able to find God in a blade of grass. Indeed some have gone too far and considered nature itself as God. All that exists depends upon God. Deep within the world there abides the One who created it. If a blade of grass is sacred then our human nature is surely sacred. One evil of sin is to desecrate the temple of God.
When our spirit is in harmony with God even our body shares in the benefit. Its natural goodness is elevated. The bodies of the saints are holy. That is why people show honor to the bodies of the saints. We can ask ourselves whether we honor our own bodies. Do we give them what they need and avoid abusing them? For the spirit to be fully free it needs a body that is obedient. For the spirit to be joyous it needs a body that is honorable and honored.
Your body, Lord, was dishonored by human beings but honored by your Father at the resurrection. Bring me, body and soul, into the paradise you have prepared for me. Give me, too, respect for the created world in which you have placed me.
