The Song of Songs says: “Set me as a seal on your heart, as a seal on your arm; for stern as death is love, relentless as the nether world is devotion; its flames are a blazing fire. Deep waters cannot quench love, nor floods sweep it away” (Songs 8).
The heart is sealed in faith. The seal on the arm is being true to his word no matter what. First we seek through prayer and meditation to deepen our faith. Then we pray for knowledge of his will for us and the power to carry that out. We do not have to be great saints to do this. Very ordinary people have found God within themselves by seeking God in prayer and then have striven to keep his word.
God often works in the hearts of ordinary people in an extraordinary way. He asks only that they keep themselves from pride and realize that they are receiving an entirely undeserved gift.
You have reached out to me, Lord, with a kindness I have not deserved. Your purpose is to bring me to fullness of life in you. Give me your peace this day so that I may live this day in and for you.
