When in our day Jesus touches people lovingly, intimately, they discover a divine power working through the humanity of Jesus. They experience a power which is: certainly able to help them; Friendly; familiar; no fool, but expecting a change of heart; faithful; patient; and wise. That is why they are able to let go of all that went before and give themselves over as disciples of Jesus.
In our own lives there have been individuals who have had a very great influence on our faith. Though the temperaments of these people were quite varied and often different from our own we could trust them and learn from them. They were reflections of Jesus who is the reflection of his Father. If we try to figure out just what it was in them that appealed to us we find that we come up with the same qualities as Jesus’ disciples found in him. The Jesus of the Gospels has touched us through our brothers and sisters, where we live.
Thank you, Lord, for giving me companions filled with your spirit to support me in time of need. Make of me a companion to others in their need. Continue to abide in our midst teaching all how to love.
