Brother Pierre T. “Peter” Marceau, M.S.C., 94, a member of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, passed away September 30, at Samaritan Medical Center. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on October 5, at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Watertown, New York, with Very Rev. Raymond Diesbourg, M.S.C., Provincial Superior, presiding and Fr. Vincent T. Freeh, M.S.C., as the homilist. Br. Pierre was interred on October 5th in Calvary Cemetery in Watertown. Please pray for the peaceful repose of his soul in the arms of Our Lord.
Brother Peter was born in East Broughton, Quebec, Canada on January 31, 1922, son of Alfred and Marie (Dion) Marceau. He attended Ecole St. Jean Baptiste (primary grades) in Ste. Henedine, Quebec and Ecole St. Jean Baptiste (high school) in Quebec City, Quebec. In 1940 he entered the novitiate at St. Clothilde, Quebec, making his first profession of vows in 1941. He professed perpetual vows in 1947.
Brother Peter was assigned to church maintenance at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Parish, Watertown, from 1943 – 1961. He was then transferred to house maintenance in the Watertown MSC community. In 1981 he worked as electrician and carpenter during construction in the Colombian mission of the MSC. These were also his maintenance specialties in Watertown. He was an avid hockey player and enjoyed skiing, golf, and fishing.
He is survived by his sister, Marie Mathe Martineau, of Montreal, his nephew, Mario Lacroix, of Quebec City, and several other nieces, nephews, and cousins. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his two brothers, Clement and Raymond Marceau, and two sisters, Therese Lacroix and Marguerite Marceau.
