Jesus said: “As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you. Live on in my love” (Jn 15). Jesus’ heart was dearly loved by his Father. Our hearts are dearly loved by our Father. He loves those to whom he sends us in our daily lives. We believe these truths.
Certainly, faith is the foundation of our loving relationship with God and one another for we cannot hope or love without faith. We hope for what we do not see; we love One who is a Mystery. Yet in another way love comes before faith. Love makes us willing to believe. The people Jesus touched believed because he touched them.
The people we encounter as we journey toward God will not be convinced of the truth of our faith because we are so clever in explaining it. They will be convinced when they see the living example of what our faith means in our loving outreach to them.
Lord, touch my heart that I may learn how to love so that my own faith may come to life. Then, Lord, with your assistance I will be able to show others what it means to believe in you and be loved by you.
