Jesus has called us in faith to be his disciples. Our calling is a gift, undeserved and of great value. It is valuable to us because if we are truly what he has called us to be he will be near us in this world and the next. It is valuable for others because we can carry the knowledge of Jesus to them in their spiritual need. Every day in our life and work as Jesus’ disciples is a new beginning, another call from him to follow him, a renewed invitation to proclaim the love of Jesus to the world.
This love is not, first of all, our love for him but his love living and working within us. A mark which seals us as apostles of Jesus’ love is our surrender to God joined with a will to serve with the compassion of God. The heart of Jesus was totally surrendered to his Father for the saving of the world. He calls us to work with him whatever our circumstances. There is no way of life in which we cannot be bonded with Jesus.
Thank you for your invitation, Lord. In health and sickness, in youth and age, as a priest, religious or lay person I can accept your call and reach out with you in your Father’s love for all humankind.
