Jesus said: “Peace be with you; my peace I give you.” When we hear the Lord approach, our part is to wait on him in this quiet time—to listen to him—to discover what it is he has in mind for us, what he has at heart for us. He has reached out to us to enable us to rise above ourselves and find him. Jesus was there at the beginning. There would have been no beginning without him and he has been there at every step along the way.
Jesus’ Father’s house is our home. Jesus promised that he would not leave us orphans. He knows that our human nature needs a home, a place that is secure and loving. The behavior of his Father and our Father is divine compassion. The heart of our Father embraces all creation yet is very personal. The heart of Jesus is the Father’s human outreach to us all. The humanity of Jesus is particularly important because it is his humanity which makes visible the divine compassion for the poor and sinners.
You have called me, Lord, to be in this place at this time. If I sometimes find this place to be less than a home, assist me in doing what I can so that it may become my Father’s house.
