Pope John Paul II has written about reparation to the heart of Jesus and in the heart of Jesus in our time: “…this is the true reparation asked for by the heart of our Savior—it will be possible to build the civilization of the heart of Christ on the ruins accumulated from hatred and violence.” The ruins accumulated from hatred and violence extend from the oppression of the poor in many lands to the grievous spiritual desolation in the hearts of so many people in every land including our own.
The Lord works through all of us, laity as well as religious and priests, and our work includes a great variety of activities. We may minister in distant places showing people how to survive as well as become holy. We may labor at undoing the destructive effects of poverty on family life in every land. We may reach out to the emotionally distressed, the mentally ill, and the imprisoned. We are called to repair the ruins wherever we are.
Lord, show me the needs of the world, spiritual and other, through your eyes. Give me a heart of flesh like your own to reach out to those in need and rebuild a world of justice and peace.
