When we see that we have been set free by the healing power of Jesus we can never be the same again. We can ask what went on in the minds and hearts of people whom Jesus healed in spirit and body during his earthly ministry. Generally, they were desperate people: lifelong blindness, many years of lameness, the hemorrhaging woman, the father of a girl who was believed dead, the paralytic, even the thief on the cross, though his liberation was exclusively spiritual. Similarly today people who seek Jesus’ healing love are often persons who have “come to the end of their rope.”
All of these people show humility. The father of the little girl was a person of rank approaching a street preacher. The hemorrhaging woman allowed herself only to touch the hem of his robe. They saw clearly their inability to find healing solely by their own power.
I admit my powerlessness, Lord, to lift myself up to you, to find fulfillment solely by my own efforts. I cannot even escape evils without your assistance. I know that humility is for me a necessity not a luxury. Let me never forget who is my healer.
