When we have begun to taste inner freedom, we see more clearly that the world is full of people who are not free. They may see themselves as free because they enjoy the illusion of doing whatever they please. The only way we can reach these people is through the attraction of our own joy in true freedom, which comes from being in harmony with the mind and heart of God. Our materialistic, pleasure-seeking world needs such examples.
Deep inside, even the most earth-bound of people have a spiritual center which is sensitive to the attraction of spiritual freedom. Most of us have only to remember our own experience. We too needed to be dissatisfied with self and attracted to something better for ourselves. The reason for our hope is that what happened in us can happen in others. After all we share the same human nature. Our part is to remain free ourselves and to be ready to reach out to those not yet free.
You reached out to me, Lord, when I was still a slave of myself and of things. You freed me and continue to free me from misery of spirit. Give me the fullness of your life and the ability to extend my hand to others.
