All creation was made by God through the Word, who is Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Lord of all creation. Just as all creation has come forth through him, all will return through him. It is Jesus’ will that creation, which is good and beautiful, become better. Creation is already glorious though it is not yet fully developed. It comes ever closer to fullness through countless ages, restored and elevated by the Word who dwelt among us.
Human beings work in God’s garden as coworkers with God (Gen 1,2). We who are disciples of Jesus have the loftiest task of all: to help bring creation to spiritual maturity, for the message of Jesus is mainly spiritual. Creation will become spiritually mature when the human spirit is in full harmony with Jesus— the Word, the mind of God. The mind of God is one with God’s love. God lives and acts “with a heart.” It is love that brings all things to their fullness.
I see your glory in the works of your hand, O Lord. I thank you for the privilege of tending the garden you have made. Teach me how to love your world as Jesus loves it.
