Spring at last! It is great that the cold weather has finished, the sun has come out, the trees are blossoming and the flowers are blooming. It is refreshing and a great time to be alive and enjoying God’s beautiful creation!
On May 13 our community gathered at Nazareth Retreat House in Batavia for our semi-annual day of recollection. Joe Jablonski gave our reflections which he based on Pope Francis document on the Jubilee of Mercy.
Our students, Erick Sepulveda and Danny DeVito, finished their term studies and headed for their homes during the 3rd week of May. Just after they left we had a visit by a new recruit, Norbert St. Pierre, who is from Tennessee and just graduated from high school. Norbert had been here around Easter for a come and see visit. He liked what he saw and came to set up his schooling which he will be doing at a community college. Norbert was able to get his class schedule set up but had some minor problems with getting the finance straightened out. He does have a government grant which will help for the first couple of years of his college.
On May 22, our community had a special mass for Brother Mike Tomcics. We invited the Lay MSC to join us along with our staff and some special friends of Mike’s. After the mass we had a lunch prepared by our staff. We wish Mike God’s blessings as he joins our community at Sacred Heart Villa in Center Valley.
The city of Aurora held a rainy Memorial Day parade in downtown. Fr. Mike Miller led the teachers, students and parents of St. Therese School in a march with the parade.
On the last Saturday of the month of May we celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart at St. Therese with Mike Miller as the celebrant. After communion we missioned Brother Mike Tomcics to his new appointment at Center Valley. There was a good crowd of parishioners and Lay MSC who joined our celebration of the feast day. We had a social gathering and lunch after mass.
The last day of the month witnessed the departure of a number of our men to Easton, PA for our Provincial Assembly and Chapter… a story for next month!
God bless and enjoy your summer!
Jim Miller, M.S.C.
