Even though it is Jesus who heals us in spirit we are not passive. God works through human freedom; Jesus has always had immense respect for human freedom. He wants us to choose to be grateful because we need gratitude to grow in the spiritual life.
Just as gratitude is necessary at the beginning of our coming to Jesus, so also we need gratitude to persevere in our healing. Moreover as a dividend we come to know the Lord much more intimately as our personal savior and deliverer. As we progress in the spiritual life gratitude unites us with God. Jesus is the door whereby we can come to the Father in the Holy Spirit. Over the years we know increasing peace, which is a sign of the presence of the Spirit. This is a gift given for the good of others as well as ourselves. We are called to proclaim the goodness of the Lord.
Praise the Lord, my soul, and proclaim his mercy to all people. You have delivered me, Lord, because of your great kindness. Continue to keep me in your care.
