God’s love is far greater than any human being can imagine. Unless God had revealed this love none of us could have come to know it. Jesus’ ability to reach out to all depended absolutely on his conviction that he himself was a loved Person. That gave him the confidence and the desire to reach out to others so that each and every one of us might be embraced by his Father’s love.
The word “love” is used so much that it may have lost its power for us. Other words are needed. In Isaiah the Father speaks to the hearts of his people: “See, upon the palms of my hands I have written your name” (Is 49). Jesus knew that his name was written on the palms of his Father’s hands. He knew too that our names are written there. That is why he is able to see every human being as a person whom the Father loves in a very special way. That is why he persists in reaching out to us early and late.
Increase my faith in your love, Lord, so that I may respond to you throughout this day. Enable me to become one with you in your loving outreach to others.
