“I [Wisdom] was his delight day by day, playing before him all the while, playing on the surface of the earth; and I found delight in the sons of men” (Prov 8). The Word of God calls himself “Wisdom” and says that he plays on the earth. If we choose we can see the playfulness of God in nature. That is part of the wonder of God’s creation.
More important for us, God finds his delight in human beings. Of all his creation, which God saw was good (Gen l), God takes special pleasure in us! If we are to have a wholesome relationship with God it is necessary not only to see God as good; it is also necessary to realize that God sees us as good. Of course, God is aware of our faults. His vision of us, however, has more to do with what he knows we can become than with the flaws that need working on. He has a positive outlook for he knows what he intends to do in us and for us.
Let me never forget my sinfulness, Lord. Let me never forget your grace in me. Give me a balanced, hopeful view of myself and the courage to cooperate with you. I delight in you as you have delighted to create and renew me.
