I know them and they know me.
When we love someone, we recognize them even if they are far away or part of a great crowd. Love enables us to see with our hearts and so search out and recognize the person we love. That relationship bonds us in a profound way.
A deep relationship with the Lord allows us to know ourselves as loved and valuable in the eyes of God and that’s what the Gospel is talking about this week.
We need to listen more carefully to God’s loving call in our lives. God’s voice speaks in the depths of our hearts and encourages us to continue on the journey with confidence because his love is faithful and never will abandon us.
When we recognize and answer God’s loving call, our oneness with the Lord will then flow through us into the lives of others. Our own faith was sown, sprouted and has grown with the witness of love we have known from other people of faith. In the same way, our loving gaze, words and actions of solidarity, our struggle for justice, in a word, our loving witness, will invite others who know us to also know and recognize God in us. Faith grows as we shepherd each other in love.
