All three readings today give us examples of people who felt unworthy and yet called by God: Isaiah, Paul and Peter. They all said yes to the call, allowing God to do through them something greater than they had thought possible.
Too many times we are aware of our unworthiness in an unhealthy and sinful way. Thinking of our limitations and mistakes in life cripples a response to God’s call and blocks the grace of new life God is always offering.
As we begin Lent this year, these three men and many other men and women of the Scriptures give us examples of saying “yes” to God. No one is “worthy” but that is not a condition for the call. Lent is a time to take the focus off of ourselves as we have been and accept the call of God to what we can be. That will change our lives as it has done for people of faith throughout time.
