By this date most people have begun to forget about Christmas and are either in the doldrums between Christmas and New Year’s Day or are looking forward to the new year. The children have already managed to break some of their toys. Since they have no school they are underfoot. Yet for believers this is precisely the time when the full wonder of Christmas can begin to exert an influence on our lives. For, in fact, Jesus has been born into the world and the history of human-kind will never be the same again.
Though divine, the infant Jesus behaved like an infant and grew up only very gradually. The power of God enters our lives only very gradually. Nevertheless that power cannot be denied. Jesus will prevail, transforming us to become like himself. Our personal world and personal history will never be the same again. It is a time to be simply at peace with the Lord in our hearts trusting that he will bring to completion what he has begun.
Lord, you have entered my life during this Christmas season. I have opened myself to you so that you can begin to lead me forward on a new path until I become like you and one with you.
