The seasons come and go but God remains forever. We need the change of the seasons because we are changeable beings who would be bored if everything remained the same all the time. We will not be bored in paradise nor can the human heart be bored with an authentic experience of God. We may become bored with our fantasies about God, but we cannot be bored with God as God really is, for God has made us for a vision and life that is divine.
When God became an infant the unchanging entered our world of change. The eternal reached deeply into the perishable world to give it eternal significance. God made that which is mortal, capable of immortal life. With divine wisdom God accomplished this through an infant. God told St. Paul that divine power shows itself most perfectly in weakness (2 Cor 12). Nothing is more powerful than love, and love could hardly have done more than enter our world as an infant.
When I feel frustrated because my world does not look upon me as great and powerful, remind me Lord, of the infant in the crib. When I am upset by passing things, calm me with your eternal peace.
