Down deep inside, people know where true joy is to be found. Otherwise there would not be so much good-will during the Christmas season. The problem is to remember this during the rest of the year. For those who are not believers, Christmas good-will and joy are an atmosphere created by the crowd. When the crowd ceases to be enthused the feelings disappear. People who understand Christmas as a sign of God’s good-will extended to them every day, have reason to remember every day where true joy is to be found.
In a sense Jesus is born into the world at each dawn because we come to a new life every day. He dwells in our humanity. Jesus’ entrance into our world is an ongoing, transforming action. He has committed himself to make over the world and us in his own image. Moreover we can bring him into our world, together with his good-will and joy, by the way we live as his disciples.
Lord, I thank you for your coming at the first Christmas and pray for your coming into me at every dawn. Let me be a sign of your good-will and joy. From day to day transform me so that I become like you.
