In the beginning the spirit of God moved over the waters (Gen 1). The creative power of God brought order out of chaos and life out of that which was lifeless. However God accomplished this, that is what he did, and in a way still does. In most of our lives there have been times when our inner landscape resembled chaos, when the spirit within us seemed lifeless. Then God intervened and restored our freedom, our hope and the joy of living.
Disciples of Jesus move between gratitude for the past and hope for the future. We hope for a world that is re-created in harmony and peace. Still, we do not live in the past or the future. We live in the present where the Spirit of God moves every moment of every day, enabling us to be co-workers in God’s creative plan. Such a life is much more satisfying than drifting in circles, ever seeking fulfillment and never finding it. Nothing in creation, by itself, can satisfy the human heart.
Thank you, Lord, for giving meaning to my life. Thank you for calling me to be your co-worker in the building up of a world of harmony and peace.
