When we come to see the light, that is, see ourselves in Jesus’ truth, the initiative is God’s. God sent his Son while we were slaves and blind. The Spirit of Jesus enters us when we recognize our need and have come to believe.
What remains for us then is to accept the gift of courage to undertake a new way of life. This courage is not a sign of pride, because we have come to realize that God is the One who begins and continues the healing within us.
We will then see the truth more and more clearly for we will have less and less reason to lie to ourselves. We will become progressively more trusting of God as we experience God’s care. We will abandon ourselves to Jesus and follow Jesus’ lead through his Spirit dwelling in us. Jesus will continue to set us free to live the life of God, who is supremely free and loving.
Day by day you enlighten me, Lord Jesus. Day by day I come to know you better and acquire a more clear awareness of my dependence on you. I rejoice that depending on you means to be free. You have filled my nothingness with God.
