We can see each day as a set of problems or as a set of opportunities. If we see the coming day as a set of problems we will set up ways of coping. Those who cope struggle through so that they can survive to cope another day. There are indeed people who have to cope, because they are starving for example. Many people who cope however do so because they choose this approach.
If we see the coming day as a set of opportunities, our outlook will be considerably brighter. Some might ridicule us for “whistling past the graveyard.” How-ever, those who cope do not actually accomplish more than those who see opportunities. The only difference is that the latter enjoy what they are doing.
In the events of our lives, Jesus sends opportunities. His outlook is creative and healing. He has endured with hope on our behalf so that we might have opportunities. That is a basic belief of his disciples.
Lord, when I wonder how I am going to save my soul or deal with my faults, inspire me to turn to you for the solution. Give me joy in following you; show me how to bring joy to others.
