Prayer is a partnership and union with God. As our eyes want to see light so our spirits want to see God’s infinite light. The kind of prayer that shows us God is prayer from the heart not limited to particular times but continuous throughout the day. We should be quick to reach out toward God not only when meditating but also when doing our work. Especially when helping others we should long for God and call him to mind so that what we do may have his special blessing. Throughout the whole of our lives we may enjoy the benefit that comes from prayer if we devote a great deal of time to it.
Prayer is the light of the spirit, true knowledge of God, leading us to him. Our spirits raised up to heaven by prayer cling to God like a child clinging to the hand of its parent. Perfect prayer is a love too deep for words. Paul says: “…we do not know how to pray as we ought; but the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in speech” (Rom 8).
Lord, you will teach me how to pray, not only in this quiet time but also at every moment of the day if only I turn to you. Keep reminding me of your presence.
