Faith is the foundation of our relationship with God for we cannot hope or love without faith. We hope for what we do not see; we love One who is a Mystery. Yet the divine Mystery has appeared to us in the heart of Jesus. The opening of his heart opens our hearts to believe. Jesus gets our attention by first loving us. Then we are ready to believe and hope.
Even the moment of prayer in which we are now engaged is a touch of the Lord. It can hardly happen that we come close to Jesus and not be healed by his presence. The effects will come later, perhaps when we least expect them. Jesus’ love does not come to an end with the end of a prayer.
Jesus is loved by his Father and he in turn loves us. Because we are loved we can love those whom we meet today. It is in these encounters that we can live on in God’s love.
When I tell others about you, Lord, let me begin as you did with understanding and kindness toward them. Let my actions speak so clearly that they will be able to understand your words and your love.
