As we grow more and more experienced in our new way of life we become more and more able to see clearly. Moral faults that were obvious showed up early in our spiritual journey in their grossest forms. Gradually we come to see their deep roots and more subtle effects. Being ready to let go of them extends to all of our faults and every degree of them. Readiness to have God remove our defects does not mean perfect success. It means a habit of readiness and gradual progress.
This readiness is closely connected with turning our life and will over to God. We learn how to deal with moral faults, as God would have us do, only by following the divine lead in the midst of the challenges of life. God would have us deal with our problems without falling back into pride, envy, resentment and the rest. God’s grace is always with us. He is the One in control. Our part is the willingness and the readiness.
When I think I am growing worse, Lord, because I see more clearly, give me patience with myself as you are patient with me. I believe you will complete what you have started.
