One of the primary MSC projects in Papua New Guinea was the founding of St. Joseph Training Centre, which provides training in carpentry and mechanics to poor, young men in order to give them the skills needed to find a job and break the cycle of subsistence farming. Since 1989, Papua New Guinea has been a independent Province within the MSC Society and its members work in schools, colleges, parishes and hospitals. Currently the USA MSC staff St. Martin Parish in Namatanai, Papua New Guinea and continue supporting St. Joseph Training Centre through the St. Joseph Training Centre Memorial Fund. Blessed Peter To Rot was a catechist deeply involved with the MSC mission in Papua New Guinea during the time of World War II and who was martyred for the faith.
