The St Joseph Training Centre Memorial Fund is a special account set up for the development of young men in Papua New Guinea. The fund was started by Brothers Dan Rakow and Jim Miller, two Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, while they were managing St. Joseph Training Centre located at Fissoa Village on the island of New Ireland in the country of Papua New Guinea.
Both brothers spent many years in training young men to learn vocational skills that would enable the young men to better their lives, to promote the development of their area and the country. They were joined by other MSC Brothers both from the USA and from PNG. Although both Brothers Dan and Jim are now back in the USA and are stationed in Aurora, IL at the MSC headquarters, they maintain a strong interest in the school and in the people that they served for a cumulative total of 63 years.
Since 1997, the SJTC Memorial Fund has awarded scholarship grants totaling K36,900. (~USD 13,000.) to 237 young men. The total cost to cover the expenses for one student for one year is about $500. Donations to the St Joseph Training Centre Memorial Fund help enable young people in PNG to gain a sense of self worth and give them the tools to better their lives and help their country to grow. Thank you for any support that you are able to give us. May the Sacred Heart of Jesus bless your generosity.
