On July 23-25, we had the opportunity to reconnect with our Ohio friends, alumni and benefactors in Ohio. Although we were physically separated from them for many years, the three-day event in Ohio provided an opportunity to reunite with those people treasured in our hearts.

On July 23, we returned to our former seminary in Shelby, OH. It was great to see our friends, alumni and benefactors who received us warmly and were grateful for our presence. After touring our former seminary (now owned by Abraxas), where we shared many memories of the past, we gathered at our MSC Cemetery for a prayer service, honoring all our deceased MSC buried there. The day ended with a fabulous pot-luck dinner prepared by our former auxiliary members, under the direction of Dorothy Blum. At this time, all the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart present gave a talk of where they have been since leaving Ohio and their current ministries. Most important was the sharing of stories and updates from those we lost contact with over the years.

The following day, about 200 persons greeted us in Canton, OH, where we served in St. Paul’s and St. Mary’s parishes. Here we had a fantastic outdoor “pig roast” organized by the parents of Brother Frank Natale, MSC, Dennis and Gerry Natale. Here we also met many new friends who joined us to meet the MSC visitors.

On July 25, we arrived in Youngstown, OH, the location of our former novitiate and retreat house. Once again, we were greeted with warm welcomes. Attorney Gary Zamary and friends provided us with an excellent supper. It was good to see some of our lay members as well as those with whom we served for many years and to share our stories and memories.

Below is a message from Fr. Peter Campbell, MSC for those who attended the reunion in Youngstown, OH
